Files downloaded by Telegram not showing in file manager apps

The popular cloud-based instant messaging service Telegram gained popularity earlier this year after WhatsApp did pretty well. important changes to its privacy policy.

Similar to WhatsApp, Telegram also provides end-to-end encryption for voice and video calls. As of January 2021, the app already had over 500 million monthly active users and is currently the most downloaded app worldwide as of August 2021.

Since the app is frequently updated with new features like the recently launched Sponsored Posts feature, sometimes users encounter bugs and issues. That being said, Telegram users are now reporting that they are unable to find their downloaded files.

Users say Telegram downloads are not visible from any file manager app. It’s really annoying for the people who use the app to download multiple files every day.

You can download a file and go to the Telegram folder to see for yourself whether the file you just saved is there or not. The problem seems to affect those on Android 11.

ditto on Telegram Android 8.2.1. Samsung Galaxy A51, Android 11 R? (30) I deleted Telegram, deleted Telegram folder from SD card, reinstalled Telegram and the folder is no longer created.
I changed the storage path several times, from internal storage to SD card, also on SD card, no Telegram folder is created.

I had the same issues with my android 8.2.7 Vivo V 17. Please someone fix this bug. It is very inconvenient for a student like me who uses the downloaded files from Telegram to study.
Make Telegram folders visible again !!!!!

It turns out that Telegram changed the location of the download folder due to the restrictions of the Android 11 system. The developers say that the files are now saved in “storage / Android / data / org.telegram.messenger / cache” and that their visibility will depend on the permissions that the file management application has.

This is annoying at best as other instant messaging apps like WhatsApp work great on Android 11 and all of their media files are saved to internal storage.

Since the issue was first reported, Telegram has had quite a few updates, but none of them aimed to fix the downloaded files issue. As Telegram has not said anything about this yet, it is still not clear if this will ever be fixed.

We hope that Telegram will take inspiration from its competitors like WhatsApp and solve the problem of the visibility of the downloaded files. If and when they do, we’ll update this article to reflect the same, so be sure to keep an eye out for this space.
